- Provamel DF, NF, EF, GF, WF
A wide range of dairy free soya products, including caramel, chocolate, vanilla and cappuccino flavoured soya-based desserts, as well as chocolate and vanilla custard with no wheat starch thickener. Provamel also make soya yoghurts, tofu, soft cheese, soya milks (plain and flavoured) and rice milks and a cream. Available from Holland & Barrett and other health food stores and online.
- Le Sojami DF, EF
Organic, vegan, soya-based cheese and paté. The cheeses come in basil, cumin & tarragon and garlic & mixed herbs flavours, and the patés come in seaweed, olives and curcuma flavours. Le Sojami also make rice milk desserts in banana, almond, chocolate, chocolate & hazelnut and coconut flavours, as well as lacto-fermented soya-based, non-dairy ice cream in strawberry, lemon, mango, chocolate and vanilla flavours. From Morehands Foods, a range of vegan products including egg free mayonnaise, Worcester sauce and a dairy free 'parmesan' and 'Cheddar', Parmazano and Cheddareese. Morehands also produce nut free pestos under the Florentino label. Most of the range is available in Morrison's and Waitrose, with some available in Asda and Sainsbury's. - Pure Dairy Free DF, GF, SF
Pure Dairy Free make three dairy free spreads - Pure Soya, Pure Sunflower and Pure Olive - all made with different oils. They also make a cheese slice and a cream cheese spread, both soya based. Available from major supermarkets and online.
- Redwood's Vegideli DF, EF
Soya free vegetarian and vegan meals, with meat style pieces made from wheat and pea protein. The Cheatin' range includes turkey style slices, bacon style rashers, ham style slices, beef style roast, chicken style slices, pepperoni style slices and tempeh rashers. The Vegideli range includesmushroom pate, breaded pepperjack style cheezly bites, mixed meatfree sausages, Kofta style bites, meatfree duck style pieces, fishfree fish fingers, chorizo style casserole and vegetarian mince. They also make 'cheese'. Available online and at supermarkets and independent health food shops nationwide.
- Sheese DF, EF, GF
100% vegan hard and soft cheese made from soya. The hard cheeses come in blue, Cheddar with chives, Cheshire, edam, gouda, medium Cheddar, mozzarella, smoked Cheddar and strong Cheddar styles. The soft cheeses come in Cheddar style, chives, garlic & herb, Mexican and original flavours.
- Triano Brands DF, GF
Long-standing producers of dairy and some gluten free ice cream products, their brands include Cuties, Tofutti Frozen Desserts, Triano Rock n Roll cones, Mamma Cucina, Frenzy and Tofutti Creamy Smooth cheeses and blocks and slices cheese alternatives. Key to dedicated manufacturing sites.
Protocols for manufacturing free-from products are now very strict and sophisticated so that the risk of contamination, even in a factory handling both freefrom and non-freefrom lines, should be virtually non-existent.
Even so, an increasing number of manufacturers are choosing to create total separation between freefrom and non-freefrom products by manufacturing them on separate, dedicated sites. See below.
However, allergic consumers should not assume that because a product has been manufactured on a dedicated site it will always be totally safe as contamination, especially to packaging, can occur during transport or in store, long after the product has left the factory.
Producers operating from dedicated free-from sites are denoted by one or more of the following codes:
CF = Corn Free
CMF = Cow's Milk Free
EF = Egg Free
GF = Gluten Free
LF = Lactose Free
NF = Nut Free
SF = Soya Free
WF = Wheat Free
