- Bensons Totally Fruity DF
Makers of Chilly Billy ice lollies made from pure apple juice, with either added raspberries, or strawberries, or mango, or blackcurrant. They also make an orange lolly. Available online and at various independent shops and eateries nationwide.
- Bessant and Drury DF, GF
Bessant and Drury make fine ice creams from coconut milk, in vanilla, strawberry, lemon and chocolate flavours. Available from independent shops nationwide.
- BoojaBooja DF, GF, SF
Makes a range of organic, dairy-free cashew-based 'ice-cream' and chocolate truffles. The ice creams include hunky punky chocolate, keep smiling vanilla m'gorilla, coconut hullabaloo, feisty winjin ginger and pompompous maple pecan. The chocolate truffles come in hazelnut crunch, around midnight espresso, ginger wine, cognac banana, champagne, dark Ecuadorian and raspberry Ecuadorian flavours. - Fruit Freezies DF, GF
100% fruit iced lollies, made from a blend of pureed fruits including grapes, apples, mangos and pears. Flavours include oranges and mangos, and apples and pears. Available from selected shops nationwide.
- Le Sojami DF, EF
Organic, vegan, soya-based cheese and paté. The cheeses come in basil, cumin & tarragon and garlic & mixed herbs flavours, and the patés come in seaweed, olives and curcuma flavours. Le Sojami also make rice milk desserts in banana, almond, chocolate, chocolate & hazelnut and coconut flavours, as well as lacto-fermented soya-based, non-dairy ice cream in strawberry, lemon, mango, chocolate and vanilla flavours. - Swedish Glace DF, GF
Long established company making dairy and gluten free soya based frozen desserts and vanilla lollies. The frozen desserts come in wild blueberry, juicy raspberry, rich chocolate and smooth vanilla flavours. Available online and from supermarkets and health stores.
- Triano Brands DF, GF
Long-standing producers of dairy and some gluten free ice cream products, their brands include Cuties, Tofutti Frozen Desserts, Triano Rock n Roll cones, Mamma Cucina, Frenzy and Tofutti Creamy Smooth cheeses and blocks and slices cheese alternatives. - Worthenshaw's DF, EF, GF, NF, SF, WF
Freedom coconut-based frozen desserts in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate flavours. Worthenshaw's also make oat milk and rice milk. Available online and from independent shops, supermarkets and restaurants.
Key for dedicated manufacturing sites
Protocols for manufacturing free-from products are now very strict and sophisticated so that the risk of contamination, even in a factory handling both freefrom and non-freefrom lines, should be virtually non-existent.
Even so, an increasing number of manufacturers are choosing to create total separation between freefrom and non-freefrom products by manufacturing them on separate, dedicated sites. See below.
However, allergic consumers should not assume that because a product has been manufactured on a dedicated site it will always be totally safe as contamination, especially to packaging, can occur during transport or in store, long after the product has left the factory.
Producers operating from dedicated free-from sites are denoted by one or more of the following codes:
CF = Corn Free
DF = Dairy Free
EF = Egg Free
GF = Gluten Free
NF = Nut Free
SF = Soya Free
WF = Wheat Free
?F = Products made on multiple sites some of which are dedicated free-from. Where the ?F is brown, you can click through to the products allergen chart.
